Olympus – Prionia

Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece with Mytika as its peak (2,917m.) and it is a magnet for visitors. It has several mountain shelters, e.g. Spilios Agapitos (Zolotas), Christos Kakalos, Giosos Apostolidis, Petrostrougas where you can spend the night during his mountaineering tour. The approach to the location "Prionia" can be done either by road or on foot. Then following the marked paths, the visitor chooses his hiking route to the Refuge of the Muses. With the scrambling climbing method you can reach Mytikas.

It is worth noting that just before the "Prionia" position dominates the old monastery of "Saint-Dionysios en Olympo" which was founded in 1542. It was set on fire in 1828 by the Turks and in 1943 it was blown up by German troops. An important part of the monastery has been restored and is open to the public. At a distance of about 20 minutes on foot is the Holy Cave of Saint-Dionysios in Olympus where Saint-Dionysios practiced asceticism and attracts many visitors during the summer months due to its special location as it is a cave under a rock.

Old Panteleimonas

Old Panteleimonas has been characterized as a traditional settlement since 1978. It is located on the outskirts of Olympus at an altitude of 500 meters. The village is a point of reference for traditional architecture in Northern Greece. It is considered as the "balcony of Olympus" as the view from there is magnificent. In the settlement you will find cafes, taverns, shops selling traditional products and handmade jewelry.

Platamonas Castle

Platamonas’s Castle belongs to the Frankish era. It is the best-preserved castle in north-central Greece, with its imposing central tower, which dominates the old National Road and it is a top tourist attraction of the region. The church of Saint-Paraskevi, which was converted into a mosque during the Turkish occupation, is preserved in the area of the castle.

Archaeological Park of Dion

In Dion, a village of Pieria, at a distance of about 25 kilometers from our accommodation, you can visit the archaeological museum, the archaeological park and the ancient theater.

The archaeological museum includes exhibits from the Hellenistic to the Roman era. The archaeological findings are a local and national heritage, with a global impact, which is exhibited to the visitors of the archaeological site and the Archaeological Museum of Dion. The archaeological park extends over a large area surrounded by low vegetation and bordered by small streams. The ancient theater dates back to the Hellenistic period. Every year during the summer months it hosts shows and events as part of the Olympus Festival organized in the area.

Rema Urlia

In the Urlia stream you can find a water paradise on the slopes of Olympus. It is a fairytale landscape with impressive waterfalls and pedestals with crystal clear waters. The most easily accessible waterfalls are the first two which are located at a distance of 5 minutes on foot from the small church of Ag. Konstantinou and Eleni where there is also a parking space. The third and largest waterfall, which is also the most imposing, is called Red Rock. If you want to visit it, you have to follow a mountain path for about an hour. The image you will face it will reward you.

Holy Daughter

In one of the most impressive ravines of Olympus, in old Vrontou, the church of Holy Daughter is built. The access is via a path with 169 steps to reach the entrance of the pilgrimage. Next to it springs the sanctification of the Holy Daughter, which the faithful consider miraculous. Special features of the area are the rich vegetation, the natural lakes with green waters and the imposing waterfalls that create points with a lot of visitors.

Museum of Royal Goat Tombs – Vergina

The Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai is an underground protection shell in the form of an earthen mound on the outside, which encloses the royal tombs of Aigai, the first capital of the Macedonians, their frescoes and precious gifts. The museum's most important exhibits are the golden Larnaca with the Macedonian star and the golden crown worn by the King Philip II.

Tempe Valley

One of the most beautiful locations, not only of Thessaly but of the whole Greece, is the valley of the Tempes which is formed between the mountains Olympus and Kissavos and is crossed by the river Pinios. Approximately in the center of the valley is the well-known church of Saint-Paraskevi which is built literally inside the mountain. Access to it is via the famous hanging bridge that challenges the visitor to take a photo.
